What are the advantages of a Dedicated Server?
A dedicated server can be the ultimate web hosting solution. It combines the advantages of the Hosting&COLO's Support Services with dedicated connectivity, sole use and complete control over your Dedicated Server. Monthly plans keep startup costs comparatively low in comparison to owning your own Server. You get the benefit of a state-of-the-art Server grade system, while still maintaining a professional level of data and hardware security, without the need to ever purchase any Server hardware. Unlike shared (or virtual) hosting programs, you and your site visitors are the only users of the Server. Once installed you will agree a Dedicated Server gives you the control you need to service your customer base.
Who provides system administration for the Dedicated Server?
With a Dedicated Server, you have total administrative control of the server, as if you were hosting it on your very own Server at your location. This means that you have the flexibility to configure the system and the applications to meet your unique business requirements. If you should need assistance with system administration, our expert engineers can provide you with remote support on a consulting basis.
What Operating System comes standard on your Dedicated servers?
RedHat Linux v9.0 is installed as the default Operating System. If you would like Windows installed on your Server, you will have to supply the Windows Server Operating System License.
Do you offer a Control Panel with the Dedicated Servers?
Yes. We include Webmin FREE on all of our Linux-based Dedicated Servers. Ensim Pro and cPanel are available for Linux-based Servers and Helm is available for Windows-based Servers for an additional fee.
Can I upgrade the hardware and/or software of my Dedicated Server?
Yes. Upgrades are available for your server including additional Hard Drives, and additional RAM, along with additional IP’s. Servers built originally without cPanel/WHM installed, may require a fresh install of Red Hat Linux, or appropriate OS.
Do I have root access to the Dedicated Server?
Yes. you have FULL root access to the Server.
Who handles the DNS?
Clients have the option of running their own DNS or having us handle it for them for an additional charge.
Do you charge a setup fee?
Yes. Setup fees vary for each Dedicated Server we offer. If you sign up for yearly billing, we will waive your setup fee.
Will Hosting&COLO upload my website to my Dedicated Server?
No. You will need to upload your website and all the necessary files to your server. If you have questions about uploading files, you can contact Hosting&COLO's Technical Support Staff.
Who is responsible for handling hardware components if they fail?
Hosting&COLO is responsible for all of your server hardware. In the event of malfunction or failure, we will replace them at no cost to you.
How are backups handled?
Backups are handled by the Client unless otherwise specified in the contract. We offer various Backup Services as an optional service for an additional fee.
How many IP addresses will I receive?
All Dedicated Servers come with 5 FREE IP addresses. You can easily order additional IP addresses in blocks of 5, 10, 32, 64, 128 and 255 for a small additional fee.
Will I receive all of my IP addresses at once?
No. We furnish IP addresses on a "as-needed" basis. When your Server is first installed, we provide you with as many of your IP Addresses you need, as long as they are all used immediately. You can request more of your IP Addresses as long as all of your existing IP Addresses are in use. All additional IP Address requests must be justified.
Where will my Dedicated Server be hosted?
Your server will be hosted at Hosting&COLO's Class A, Telco-grade Data Center facility in Los Angeles, CA. For more information about our Data Center facility, please visit our Data Center facilities page.
Does my Server support SSL?
Yes. All of our Dedicated Servers support SSL. However, you must provide your own SSL certificate, which we can install for you. You can purchase a GeoTrust 128-bit SSL certificate from us anytime. You can also request installation of a SSL certificate by opening a Support Ticket.
Can I purchase more than one Dedicated Server?
Absolutely!
How do you calculate how much bandwidth I use?
We use MRTG, a well-known statistics package, to calculate bandwidth usage. MRTG statistics are made available to you upon request.
What does 1 Megabit Per Second (1Mbps) of bandwidth equate to?
A dedicated connection of 1 Megabit Per Second (1Mbps) will transfer a total of 324 GigaBytes of data if constantly used at 100% throughput capacity for an entire month.
What happens if I go over my allowed amount of bandwidth?
If you go over your allowed bandwidth, a fee of $2.50/GB will be added to your monthly bill. We will contact you as soon as we notice that you have gone over your monthly allowed bandwidth and we won't send you a bill for the additional bandwidth until we have worked with you to determine the cause of the overage.
Do you require a minimum contract?
No. Although, if you sign up for yearly billing, we will waive your setup fee.
What services do you provide with the purchase of a Dedicated Server Package?
We include the following services with our Dedicated Servers:
